In Ikhtisas Al Mufeed page 183, Ameer Al Moumneen peace be upon him did so: i, e, threaten to kill Omar bin Al Khatab.
It happened when Omar the son of Suhak insisted on exhuming or unearthing the grave of our lady al Zahra peace be upon her. Al Sheikh Al Mufeed may Allah be pleased with him narrated on the authority of our Imam Al Sadiq peace be upon him that:
When she peace be upon her passed away, Ameer Al Moumneen peace be upon him buried her at night time using the cover of darkness, and the following morning some people in medina wanted to attend her funeral including the pair of Ateeq and the son of Suhak.
They asked Imam Ali peace be upon him: what have you done with the dead body of the daughter of Mohammed? Look at the language they both used, indeed it was a disrespectful language that indicates they did not understand the status and position of both our prophet peace be upon him and his family as well as his daughter Al Zahara peace be upon her, they then said: Have you buried her already?
Ali peace be upon him said: Yes by Allah I have done so! They asked him: why did you do that and why did not you inform us beforehand about her death? Ali peace be upon him replied: She requested me as such.
At the instant Omar said: By Allah I shall dig up her grave in order to do salat janaza over her with others!! At that response, Imam Ali peace be upon him declared: By Allah as long as I have a pulse in me and Thul-Fiqar (i.e. Sword of Imam Ali peace be upon him) in my hands, you will never reach that moment of attempting to exhume the grave, and you do know what I can do to you!
So Ateeq, said to his best pal, let us leave him to it, and they left him alone. That was a clear warning issued by Imam Ali peace be upon him to the son of suhak to not even think about what he planned to carry out as that would be the last thing he would have done alive.
In a previous encounter as mentioned in the book of Sulaim page 50, when Omar and his gang forced their entry into the home of Al Zahra peace be upon her, Imam Ali peace be upon him also threatened to kill Omar. It is very unfortunate that many Shia do not or are not aware of this particular incident that was narrated in details on the authority of Salman al Mohammady may Allah be pleased with him in the book of Sulaym bin Qays al Hilali:
Ali rushed to Omar, pulled him forward forcefully, shook him to the sides, wrestled him down to the ground at once and stepped over his nose and neck heavily and was about to kill Omar. That was what Salman narrated, and he also continued to narrate that Imam Ali peace be upon him recalled the testimony of the prophet peace be upon him and his pure family and said to Omar: "By the one who glorified Mohammad with Prophethood! Oh the son of Suhak, had it not been to a commitment I pledged to the messenger of Allah peace be upon him and his pure family, I would have made you know and made it known that you won’t be able to enter my house."
In those two documented incidents, we have clear evidence that Imam Ali peace be upon him came hard on the son of Suhak to teach him a lesson or two or remind him of what could happen to him had he stepped the line.
